Clarity for households and businesses on direction of travel including ending confusion on hydrogen and a deadline for end of fossil fuel use for home heating. 2. Make low carbon heating the go to option for boiler replacement by rebalancing energy bills, support with installation costs (subsidies and zero interest loans) and increasing consumer confidence by improving installation and providing consumer protection.

New renewable energy from waste manifesto launched 📣 Renewable energy investor and funding provider hashtag #PrivilegeFinance has launched a new manifesto ahead of the general election, on how public and policy support for AD (anaerobic digestion) could reduce reliance on imported fuels, reduce energy bills and tackle the climate emergency. 💬 Chris Winward, CEO at Privilege Finance, explains that despite the fact the UK is not on track to meet its legally binding net zero goals by 2050, the green agenda remains low on the list of government priorities. ⬇️ “We are disappointed to see that so far, this election has shown no long-term commitment to renewable energy despite the UK’s reliance on overseas energy sources, which has driven up energy bills during a cost-of-living crisis,” Mr Winward says. “Yet again, even when political parties have mentioned renewable energy, the focus has remained on wind and solar, neglecting other proven green technologies, which could help the UK become energy self-sufficient and build the nation’s resilience. “A balanced, renewable approach to our energy is vital if we are to stop using harmful fossil fuels. It’s also alarming that some major parties continue to support fossil fuels for our gas needs, when AD can help decarbonise the gas networks now, using readily available organic wastes that would otherwise not be used efficiently.” According to The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA), the UK has the potential to generate up to 90 TWh of energy annually from AD, which is the equivalent to 10% of the UK’s total energy demand. Mr Winward says whichever party takes power post- election, AD must not be ignored. UK #generalelection hopefuls could be doing more to tell voters about the "huge opportunity" of the net zero economy, says the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit's head of parliamentary engagement Alasdair Johnstone. Further, of the UK’s top 25 net zero hotspots, which are predicted to present the largest economic opportunities from climate action, 65 per cent are classified as key "electoral battlegrounds" research by CBI (Confederation of British Industry) Economics finds. Important new policy paper from Which? calling for urgent reform of Energy Performance Certificates to help people make their homes greener. EPCs have relatively low consumer awareness with only 36% of people knowing what their home's EPC rating is and only 29% being aware of the section of the report that has advice on how to improve your rating Key changes needed according to the paper include: - EPCs should have more than just the later rating potentially including energy use, cost or heating system. - More information in EPCs about heating systems including environmental impact of current system and lower carbon alternatives. - Advice in the EPC should be more tailored to the specific property - Data should be more accessible and apps/online services should be developed to boost consumer understanding. - Training requirements for assessors should be enhanced and the validity period should be reduced from 10 to 5 years. As technology develops we should also be looking at how anonymised data from smart meters can be shared more widely to understand in use energy performance across a range of homes more effectively.

General Election 24: it is fantastic to see the Liberal Democrats manifesto recognising the immediate and clear need for action when it comes to UK #energypolicy and is in line with our own calls in many policy areas, with several positive steps on #climate and energy listed. The 90% renewable power target by 2030 is an ambitious target and welcome, but should go further to increase ambition in #heat and #transport too. A number of calls from our First 100 Days action plan, published last week, are contained in the manifesto, including the need for more joined up-thinking and prioritisation at the highest level of government, more renewables, a spatial plan for #gridnetworks and support for #electricvehicles. The EV commitments in line with our recommendations include re-adopting the 2030 phase out date for new petrol car and van sales, providing centres of training excellence for the industry (and wider net zero skills) and improving accessibility. The manifesto recognises the need for a wide range of policies and technologies to deliver the energy transition. This includes delivering more #solar capacity, increasing levels of home #insulation and implementing a well thought out Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).  We look forward to working with the LibDems (and other parties) to ensure the UK's role as a global leader in #climatechange is restored. https://lnkd.in/eYy8k_Qv

A new report from the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has found that most gas sector workers in the UK could switch to ‘climate compatible’ careers with the right kind of support from the government. The report stated that workers from various branches of the gas industry, such as oil and gas production, gas power stations, gas networks and boilermaking, will need to transition into new jobs as the UK moves to net zero.
