Even better than Dune: Imperium!

Even better than Dune: Imperium!
I am already bananas over Dune: Imperium but after playing Uprising, which feels like a much tighter, fraught experience where resources like Water are even more precious. The addition of spies is really cool and though I’ve only played it once, I can tell you I already like it better and we didn’t even get to tame any worms!? Not only that but the Imperium deck seems to have far more interesting cards in it than the Imperium deck from Dune: Imperium as well as more fully realized Leader cards. Also combat plays a far greater role than in the previous version of Dune: Imperium from Dire Wolf.I was absolutely obsessed with a different version of this game from Avalon Hill that I bought in the early 80s but this version of Dune is far more interesting andShown are custom tokens for the Alliances from BuyTheSameToken.

You do not have to read the Dune book series or watch any of the movies to thoroughly enjoy this game (although it certainly will enhance your enjoyment of the theme). This is a great game, relatively easy to learn and great for a boardgame night!

This is a really cool game, lots of fun, one of my favorite games. There is a lot of strategy to it and a little luck, but you can minimize elements of luck with planning and strategy. Good fun.

I have played the original DI and rise of ix expansion and I loved it; but wow somehow they managed to improve upon the formula in many ways. Adding new mechanics to the game that make it feel more strategic and exciting. I can’t express how I much I love this game! Do yourself a favor and pick it up!

Lets be clear, while nowhere the complex, fans only, game of the older (1980's) one, neither Dune Imperium game is intended for "casual gamers" Its dynamics have several moving parts, it is highly asymmetrical, and there IS a learning curve. Beyond that it is dynamic and fun and IF you have the time and patience it can be a great experience. The real question for many is, which is better; Uprising or the original, and IF I have the 1st, is it worthwhile to upgrade? Uprising is a better game, the minor changes and the inclusion of the sandworms are without a doubt solid if mostly subtle improvements. If you are NEW to the game, then yes, ABSOLUTELY go with Uprising, but for older players, these are somewhat pricy, and I'd recommend playing first before you decide if its worth it because in reality, both are great.

I’ve only played solo. I like this better than dune imperium. There is more card combos and card interaction. The worms make a big difference late in the game. Enough difference vs the first game to warrant getting it if your a fan of the gameplay.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic Refined
Reviewed in Canada on June 4, 2024
I love the base game Dune: Imperium, and it's become an instant favorite among my friends. (I haven't played the expansions as I find the OG game is stellar on its own, and I'm not a huge fan of buying expansions, given that I'd usually rather just put that money towards a new game.)

Dune: Imperium Uprising is largely the same game in terms of its core mechanics (and can even be mixed and matched with the original D:I, if you were so inclined), but it really shakes things up in interesting ways. It has things like: new heroes to command, each with their own unique abilities; new/rebalanced board spaces; new and arguably more interesting cards; more things to do (eg. the optional CHOAM contracts) and spend resources on, meaning solari is actually useful in the late game; sandworms that you can ride into battle, buffing your combat strength and doubling your combat rewards... while it's all very similar at its core, it still manages to feel fresh, more balanced, and all around more impactful.

It may not be for everyone, however. The original D:I is usually very tense with close games until the final moments, whereas the sandworms doubling conflict rewards can potentially mean someone earning as much as 5 (!) victory points in one conflict if they play their cards right (out of the 10 points required to trigger the end game). Games can be much more swingy as a result, so if you're not down with that, the original may be more your speed.

In spite of that, I still think I'd recommend D:IU as the version to get, regardless if you're new to D:I or not. Both versions are fantastic, and the original is still a near perfect game in my eyes... This one just smooths over some of the minor complaints I had with it (and who doesn't want to command sand worms to fight for them, c'mon).

Great game, but came with missing water tokens and I'm unable to contact the seller to ask for these, unless I submit a refund. We have already played the game and used the water tokens from the previous Dune Imperium, I'd just like to be sent what is missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo gioco
Reviewed in Italy on February 7, 2024
Ottimo gioco, lo avevo preso di mira fin dal primo annuncio. Molto complesso, è vero, però è davvero completo e variabile. Nessuna partita è mai uguale all'altra. Questa versione è in inglese ma prossimamente verrà anche tradotto, tuttavia si parla di un inglese molto semplice che non costituisce una barriera linguistica. La qualità delle pedine e delle carte è molto buona.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun strategic board game
Reviewed in Canada on July 16, 2024
I played for the first time with my son tonight. My favorite board game but if not played often enough, it's difficult to build up strategies because of its complexity.

I've also played Dune Imperium (version 1) and it's also a great game.

I still haven't tried the 1 or 6 player modes.

The game should've just come with 8 wooden warms instead of the 4 plastic mini figures and 4 wooden worms. Although, maybe I'll paint the worm one day so that it looks better.

Playing this game also inspired me to finish the Dune audiobook.
