Betrayal at House on the Hill Game

Tile by tile, terror by terror, build your own haunted mansion and try to escape it alive. Suspense and excitement build as you encounter spirits and frightening omens that foretell your fate.

Explore the haunted house tile by tile. After laying out basic rooms, no one knows how the house will be laid out, as each new tile is chosen at random from the deck. Players must follow the instructions on those that require action.

Play as one of 12 brave explorers who must rely on each other to survive the horrors that await them. There are 6 character movers, each with a 2-sided character card listing traits that will help or hurt them throughout the game.

Each tracker shows explorers' stat levels: Physical traits of speed and might, and mental traits of knowledge and sanity. Gain and lose traits, but don't let the tracker end up at the skull icon…or it's goodbye!

Betrayal at House on the Hill Game

Explore the haunted house by choosing a random tile card for the ground floor, upper floor, or basement. Then they lay down the new rooms, and move throughout the house by connecting rooms, entering and exiting through their doorways.

During the haunt phase, the game goes from cooperative to semi-cooperative gameplay. The traitor takes the Traitor Tome and leaves the room to study it in secret. The others review their Secrets of Survival booklet and plan their own survival strategy as a united group.

The game includes 50 unique haunts, each with its own immersive storyline, creepy elements, and unexpected plot twists. Once the haunt begins, the game changes dramatically. Players struggle to win before their opponent does. The game ends when one side completes their haunt goals.

With tons of scenarios, each with its own random events and strategies for survival, you will love the replayability and freshness every time the game is played.

Disclaimer: Im not a game reviewer by trade or practice, but this one is worth the jump.Ist, out of the box Betrayal has a bit of set up required its easy to accomplish and requires no extra tools, but the carboard tokens and pieces do require you to "punch" them out of perforated cardboard. Everything is good quality and durable. (Just like 80s movie creatures) avoid getting it wet. The place markers (lil people) are excellently crafted and have great detail the cards are good quality and the board pieces are solid.2nd Game play. (The whole reason you are reading a review I'm sure.) This is fun. It starts off with quite a bit of set up. Choosing a character, trying to decide which player attributes will help in a scenerio that you have not been presented with yet. First plan is to explore the house and grounds. Each discovery has the oportunity to strenghten your character but aslo may trigger the "Haunt". The board is an ever growing collection of tiles. Each corresponding to the appropriate floor (It would just be weird to have a balcony in the basement). Once the "Haunt" is triggerd, a single player is now the opponent. They have a whole seperate scenario and gameplan book and everything. You team up to strategize a win against a lone player. Its a lot of fun.The good: It's a fun game. Interesting that they have designed it to take on 50 different "HAUNTS" so 50 different strategies and even a plan for situations where you incidentally draw the same game a second time. Its unique that the board of play is built as you play and they did a great job utilizing it with all the 50 scenerios. Fun times had by all.The Bad :(for all those who seek the bad reviews first.. drama seekers) about once per game we had to decide what the rules were. For example once we had a player trying to sabotage the ending... we had to decide if we could attack them on a player vs player type attack or if we simply had to run. Its not a very long game and requires a lot of reading and set up id say we averaged 1 1/2 hrs per game. (Depending on what kind of liquid was not being spilled on the game board)Overall great game fun times what initially seems like an over complicated game in the end is pretty simple and is explained well for the most part. Its rated 12 and up and thats a pretty mature 12 year old. 3 player minimum and 8 max. Thats because of the number of player cards.Hope this helps

I love this game. Played it at a friends house on one of their board game nights and loved it so much that I had to get my own copy of the game. If you like mystery and a bit of horror you will like this game. Its like Clue mixed with mafia/werewolf. The best part is that you don't know who is the one that betrays the group. I love the replayability of this game and that each time you play it its changes and is different from the last game. Every time I play it with my friends someone new is the person that betrays the group and the story changes every time as well with new enemies. A great game to play with friends or family.

So this game is not easy to learn at all. It's a very complicated game and one that I would highly recommend you play with an experienced player first for your first few games. The rulebook is thick and doesn't even cover every single scenario you may encounter in the game which is why the instructions specifically state that if this happens you just come to an agreement as a group about how to handle the situation and keep playing.

Besides the fact that it's a very complicated game, it is kind of addictive at the same time. No game is ever the same. The layout of the house changes, there are about 50 different haunt scenarios, etc. There is so much variability from game to game that it keeps it really interesting. But that's also why the rulebook is thick too.

Each game takes approximately 2 hours to complete. It's a fun game! Give it a try.

I played this game at a friends house, and found so much replay value out of it. Its a fairly easy game to learn, and you are world-building the entire time. The only issue I have with this is that the interior plastic thing where you put your game pieces was slight... melted? Overall I give this game a 4.5/5

Good range of haunts and very fun to play. The haunts are tricky for the adventurers and seem to work in favour of the traitor which is great if you love a challenge. Fun game and I highly recommend to those that love strategic adventure games.

If you're looking for something similar but a bit easier on the heroes I recommend 'Betrayal at Baldur's Gate' another Hasbro Game with slightly easier haunts.
