Buy the deluxe version, instead. Also, tins are horrible! Get a deck box.
I got this game knowing that the Party version is better, but the base game was a third of the price of the Party version, so I wanted to give it a try. I also wanted it because the tin is far smaller than the Party version and I had planned on keeping the cute little Sushi Go! tin when I first ordered it.I've changed my mind, and I'll tell you why: the Sushi Go! tin came pretty badly smashed in the corner, as shown in my pictures. Mine does still close, but it looks horrendous. I don't mean to sound terse, but putting games in tins is not a good idea in general, especially if you're going to use a bubble mailer to ship them. Also, a few of my cards were damaged on a middle edge of the card. Weird defect, but I'm happy that they are not horribly marked (I barely noticed it while playing solo). Also, a lot of them have an arched curve to them. It's hard to see in the picture, but you can tell when you hold them.Lastly, if you choose to sleeve the cards, they won't fit in the tin. This isn't a huge deal, as you can find a 100-card deck box for less than $10.00.The biggest issue with the tin in that it's bad for traveling; it can definitely be dented with force. One wrong move with your bag or purse and boom: ruined tin. Again, you could buy a deck box to fit yourcards in for cheap, yes, but I just wanted to point out that the tin that the game comes with isn't good for traveling. Looks cute on display, though! The sushi are embossed, and the illustration makes me happy to look at.To say something positive: the cards felt nice and thick, and the little illustrations and instruction manual are precious. This is also a simple and quick game, so I think kids and adults alike could have fun playing this together. If you just want to grab a little thing to put in your car or something, maybe this is for you. If you want a better game for a home family game night, get the deluxe version.

    Set-up/Play/Clean-up- 30 minutes (2 to 5 players)
TL; DR- Quick family fun. 90%

Basics-Hungry for some more quick sushi games? Sushi Go! is a simple family card game that follows many of the same drafting mechanics popular in 7 Wonders and Among the Stars. Players start with a hand of cards and choose a card. All players reveal their chosen cards simultaneously. Some cards are instant point cards like nigiri cards. Other cards are worth more as you gain more of the same card like dumplings. Yet others need a specific number of cards of one type to get any points like tempura where every two score points. And some are worth more depending who has the most of them at the end of the game. There are also wasabi that multiply other cards, and the chopsticks card. If players have a chopstick card, they can shout "Sushi Go!" and take a second card from the same hand of cards. After selecting your card for the round, you pass the cards to the left. When you only have two cards, you choose one card, and then throw the other into the center. After three total hands like this, players determine who has the most points and is the winner.

Mechanics- I like a good drafting game. This one plays quick and teaches even quicker. My sister who can't read scored as many points as I did while my mom scored the least points. It's a blast to play and won't require encyclopedic knowledge of some obscure rules. 5/5

Theme- Here is where the game suffers. I don't get the feeling I get from Wasabi of being a chef. This game has cute sushi, but beyond the box and the art, there isn't really a story here. If story doesn't matter to you, then this game is great. 3/5

Instructions- The instructions are a single booklet that's less than ten pages. It doesn't take much to learn and play this game. 5/5

Execution- The cards are decent quality and the whole game comes is a metal tin. The art is great and all cutesy. And for less than 15 bucks? Well worth the price of admission. 5/5

Summary- This game has the family board game awards all wrapped up, and I can see why. It's cheap, easy to play, and doesn't require a ton of priming to get into. It's a great intro board game that doesn't break the bank and travels well too. 90%

I got this game as a gift a while back and decided that it would be a good gift for someone else. This game is fabulous! As someone who likes sushi and has connections to Asian culture, this game is fun. It is easy to figure out - you just have to pair cards well, travels well - it is a small metal carrier, and creates lots of laughter. Very much recommend.

If you're considering purchasing this item now, and if money is no object, you should look to Sushi Go Party instead.

    Sushi Go Party! Card Game

Sushi Go! Is a great game, but Sushi Go Party is basically everything Sushi Go! is and more. I have heard rumors that the quality of the card stock used in Sushi Go Party is a bit worse than what is used in Sushi Go!, but I've never handled the Party edition so I can't say for certain. I can say that the card stock used in Sushi Go! is great.

Sushi Go! is a "pass and play" game, and the first of it's type that I had ever tried. Basically everyone starts with a handful of cards, decides one to play, and passes the rest of the cards (all the ones they decided not to play) on to the player next to them. This goes around and around until all the cards have been played. After everything has been played you total up everyones points for the round and see who won.

This is one of those games I break out when the other players are not regular gamers. It's easy enough to learn, and the theme is cute and... well... tasty. The rounds are short enough that people won't get bored, and since everyone is basically taking their turn at the exact same time there's no waiting around.

I find this game is a bit chaotic for my strategic slow game preferences. Since everyone is playing at the same time it's difficult to base your play according to what everyone else is doing. It's also pretty hard to remember everything that is flying by as you pass the cards from person to person. I saw the maki roll last time, but now it's, gone? Or it just hasn't come back yet? Glance at the table to see if someone played it... by then you're almost holding up the game! This quick speedy aspect is also what makes the game fun, so probably shouldn't complain much there. Only other personal gripe I have with the game is that while play is super fast paced and frantic, scoring each round takes a second. There are multipliers and each card type has a different way of being scored, so you can't just look at everyones play area and quickly determine who won the round.

Good times though! Lots of laughs and great for new gaming groups. Plays well with 4 players so if your'e a pair of couples it's a great game to break out.

The metal tin is quality as well!

This is a great game, even for older children. My family still likes to play it when we get together (I have high school and college age children). It's simple but fun. We like to play it when we're not in the mood for an in depth thinking game, but just want something fun to do together after dinner!

I bought this game originally to play with third and fourth graders. Instead though, I played with my adult son and his wife. It was a quick-paced game that involved a variety of strategies and a little luck. I have played many box games, and this is pleasantly different and enjoyable. Definitely a great game for families that like to play games. Seems best played with three or four people. I will eventually get some third or fourth graders to play, but I have not had a chance yet. Anyways, all people involved you have played it, really liked it. Players ages ranged from 35 to 72!
