The keyboard for people who bash their keyboard.
First off Id like to say that originally had a K551R which was purchased for me as a bonus for a job I worked at in 2021. The one I received today was purchased by me for more than a few reasons. First of these reasons was that a few days prior I had taken my old K551R and smashed it against a hard countertop more than a few times, spread the keys across 4 zip codes. This wasn't the first time I had done this too. Many other times I had to go find all the keys, pop them back in place, pop in the switches, ditch the broken switches. But this time I had been finished with it. I literally folded the board in half and tossed it in the trash. Yes I have a rage quit issue. This isnt about that, this is a keyboard amazon review, stick with me. Anyway I dont think theres much difference between the one I had and the one I bought that is in this review section. I am typing on the new one right now and it feels great. What Id like to say is that for the amount of abuse the old keyboard had encountered from January 2021 to the other day, it survived and still powered up after I fished it out of the trash can. I want to make it clear that I beat this keyboard so hard and put all the keys and switches back in place more than 8 times. The frame of the keyboard that the board is secured to is very fine metal and has incredible durability. At some point you can look eye level to it and see that the frame had been concaved from my fist. Eventually I bent it in half and it still didnt snap. I powered it up without most keys, some keys that stayed with the sinking ship had been jammed down in place, some of them still had working function and most of the lights on the board stayed on, about 97% of them. Absolutely amazing that I managed to find a sub $50 keyboard that can survive my ridiculous constant attempts at its pure destruction. As of today I have it tested and the main power and most of the board is still working. All I can say is sometimes in this world of shoddy products from all over the globe, just know that Redragon has managed to provide a product that can survive my man child anger issues. Fantastic job Redragon!

I've been using Redragon keyboards for the last few years, and they have always been a super solid choice, price to quality of materials is fantastic. Good RGB and the different modes it can be put in, the breathing mode looks pretty sweet.🤙🏻 Nice little volume wheel in the top right corner makes for good volume control. It has a few macro keys, but I don't generally use these, but should I need them, they're there. Also has media controls, have a decent feel when pushed. The way the switches are put on the keyboard, it makes for easy cleaning with no actual space under each key. Just spray it with compressed air and it's like new. Top tier product.
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2019
I know there are more expensive keyboards. I know there is endless variety and a vast array of aesthetic options.
A lot of it is just pointless luxury, and it ends up being delicate or just impractical.

I've not spent on a real quality keyboard in a long time, so take that into consideration. I know that I've not experienced the full spectrum of functionality here. But I DO have experience with highly loved and acclaimed keyboards like those classic IBM mechanical and older Apple Macintosh keyboards. In terms of action, this is just as good. It's solid -- in fact, this thing is surprisingly heavy. The switches feel incredibly precise and sturdy. It is a good, solid device. Unlike the venerable IBM keyboards of yore, this unit does not waste any desk space with pointless structural flourishes. For being a good full-sized keyboard with terrific action, it certainly does mind its place. It never gets in the way. Form follows function. This is comfortable and pleasing. Good tools should not get in the way of doing a job. This keyboard is never in my way.

I've also had cheap keyboards. You know -- the ones that you can get in places that rhyme with MallWart. I've HAD cheap keyboards. Past tense. And, trust me, it is simply not wise to save money by sacrificing a good keyboard.

I've also gotten plastic monstrosities priced in this range from major companies that love overpricing delicate junk. I've paid as much as this cost me for something that warped and had no weight.

    So, I have some perspective.

I think this is my favorite keyboard. Period. The original Apple PowerMac keyboards come very close. But there is just something about this.

And the cost of this thing is just shocking in light of that. In a good way.

This is not, I admit it, a quiet keyboard. Like those venerable old IBM ps-2 mechanical keyboards, this is an effective and very pleasing keyboard that could probably also double as an exotic percussion instrument in a pinch. The point, is, while I never would do that, I could probably get away with it and still have a working unit. The fact of the matter is that for a good keyboarding experience -- one that isn't vague and squishy and one that has enough kinesthetic feedback for you to have a high degree of accuracy -- you need to make some noise. I happen to find this pleasant. If a clicky keyboard isn't appealing to you, then I'm afraid you'll have to settle for an imprecise one instead. That having been said, I have heard far, far louder keyboards. This is pleasant, I think. It's certainly not excessive and the feel of using it is worth a bit of clicking.

The red backlighting is perfect for me. It won't blind you at night and isn't distracting in the day, but you can see exactly where things are. And aesthetically, this glowing red is superb. Firey. Warm. Even if I had full RBG functionality, I'd end up setting the color to red anyway.

Altogether, you have to pay for quality. This thing is not a discount store special. That having been said, this thing has no business being as affordable as it is considering how good it is. I honestly don't think I'd pay for anything different. I just can't see why. Go cheaper, and the experience is miserable. Anything more expensive will be no better performing than this. If you like gimmicks, gold plating, or prestigious brand names, then you just like wasting money for junk. If you get sticker shock at this price, then you just aren't thinking about how awful cheap keyboards are and how they just love to fall apart -- never mind that using them will raise your blood pressure out of frustration. Either way, when you come to your senses, get this. THIS. Not something else. THIS.

To preface this review, I'm coming to this mechanical keyboard from a Logitech G110 multimedia board, which isn't mechanical. I don't know anything about the different types of switches, and this is my first truly mechanical keyboard.

For this price, I was not expecting the level of quality that this item exudes. All the keys work perfectly, the whole board has a very reassuring heft to it, and the feel of the keys is really nice and consistent across the whole board. Lighting isn't perfectly even across the letters, but there aren't any dark spots that make them unreadable; light pours around from beneath the keycaps, which is a pleasant effect. The feet on the bottom are rubberized, which is such a welcome feature that I've never had with a keyboard before. They keep the board very firmly planted on my glass desktop. I really cannot overstate how nice this board feels. I don't know what kind of plastic is used in the construction of this thing, but it feels really high-end as far as plastics go. Pulling one of the keys off reveals that they are of very thick and solid casting. The board also comes with a little keycap puller, which is a nice inclusion, should you want to take all the keys off without damaging the switches.

The following probably won't matter to any buyers, but I'll put it down anyways in case someone from the design department is reading this:

The only thing I'm not 100% sold on with this keyboard is the bezel; I feel like after maybe a year of use or even just sitting and collecting dust, cleaning this board might be a bit tricky. All the keys come up and are removable, sure, but there's a little "ditch" of sorts where the edges of the deck under the keys and the raised sidewall come together that I can't imagine would be very easy to get a cleaning utensil into. It seems like a strange design decision when they could have just lowered the wall around the keys and let the deck roll off the side of the board. Doing something like this in the name of ease of cleaning would have been a really great inclusion. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but as-is I'm not sure how easy it's going to be to get little particles of dust and stuff out from that ditch.

    UPDATE: 3/12/20

After 2 years of heavy daily use, the "A" key started to fail intermittently. Everything else on the keyboard still works and looks new, but I'm going to have to retire it because I can't work with a key that registers only half the presses. 2 years of heavy use out of a keyboard for this price is actually pretty decent, so I'm only going to remove one star from my original rating. I'll vouch for Redragon products all day just because, for the price, the quality is great and the design is superb. If you're looking for an inexpensive gaming-oriented keyboard with backlighting, it's hard to beat Redragon's offerings in terms of price, quality, and features.

    Tryn2Makeit
5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive way to try Mechanical Keyboards
Reviewed in Canada on January 17, 2020
I have an IBM model M keyboard at home and wanted something similar for work. I considered purchasing an updated Model M keyboard but was more than twice the price of this keyboard. I thought I would give this a try given the price, I knew it was not going to be the same as the IBM but wanted to try these new types of mechanical keyboards. First, thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was its weight, it is quite heavy compared to the HP keyboard I had. It felt sturdy and had virtually no flex when I tried to twist it. The keycaps feel really nice and solid, the click is not as loud as the IBM and the amount of effort to press the key is much less than the IBM, the tactile feedback also is not as noticeable as the IBM. However, typing with this keyboard is satisfying in a different way than the IBM, when you bottom out the key it is just a solid stop, I think it feels more solid than the IBM. I generally press quite hard on keys when I type so the solidity of the backplate - which is metal - allows me to really pound on the keys. I like this keyboard and feel I made a good choice, I may get another with a different switch that requires more effort to press but for now this keyboard is great. I do feel like the keys may be a bit smaller than the IBM but I am adjusting to it. I notice the design of the keyboard makes it easy to clean as the keys are not recessed into the keyboard, but at the same time they supply a key puller, so I can get to those crumbs and dust, unlike conventional keyboards. It is sleek looking and takes up a little less space than a traditional keyboard. I paid a little more for the backlighting, I thought I did not need it but, it is neat to change the backlighting when I leave at the end of the day. Probably the only negatives thing I can say about the keyboard is the fonts used on the key are stylized and sometimes hard to read or identify. If you have never tried a mechanical keyboard and want to try this is a great keyboard to try to see if it is for you, it is not for everyone but for me I love mechanical keyboards.

Responsive, somewhat loud yet very tactile feed back. The back-lighted keys come in different brightness's to which you can disable completely if needed.

600 day edit: Had used the keyboard extensively, with strenuous use from both gaming and word processing. I have yet to have any major issue with the keyboard. There is a mmild chatterr in my typing that would occur since I bought it, but the instances has been so few and in-between (and I had the same issue with a few used keyboards so I think it's my rig, not the keyboard), I'd go as far as to say it as a non issue. My number 7/& key has begun to dim, but only ever so slightly. In my opinion, 600 days of heavy use and those are the only real issues makes me reiterate my stance: this is a fantastic budget mechanical, and 100% would recommend if you are tight on cash.

Soon, as I received the keyboard, the first thing on the list was to press the keys and get a feel. The keys feel very soft, I tell you and loud, I am not the guy who has fiddled around with a lot of keyboards, but this is still pretty loud, but at the same time the sound and the tacticle feedback tell you precisely when you have depressed the key enough and is good if you're switching to a mechanical typer for the first time, might not be the best for taking over to your office though. People have compared the keys to the Cherry MX Blues, that are on the costlier side and supposedly offer the same performance.

The backlighting on the board is generous, every key has its own little little light behind it which illuminates the whole keyboard seamlessly.
The double-shot ABS keycaps on the Vara do their job and distribute the light evenly. The "Windows Key" has a little bit of a light distribution problem (only noticable upon VERY close inspection) which might just be in the particular model I have but, I didn't really seem to mind it since I got much more than what I paid for already.
The board feels pretty heavy and solid, owing to the aluminium used in the construction and ofcourse, the technology of the board itself and it has rubber feet to keep it in its designated place during those marathon typing AND/OR gaming sessions.

The board has a function key which helps you enable/disable the breathing effect, change the brightness, change the state for the LEDs. It also lets you use the multimedia functions, lock the windows key OR lock all the keys. The LEDs can be really bright and go all the way to a good level of dim in steps, but I'd prefer them to have the ability to go even lower (PRICE! PRICE! PRICE!).

The bummer is the absence of a BLUE LED model, even separately, but then again, keeping in mind the price, we're glad to have gotten a mechanical keyboard here.

As a verdict, it will be possible to say that this is one hell of a board and you get way more than you expect from a typing instrument at this price range. So, if you are in the market for a new gaming keyboard OR just want to do some hardcore typing, go for it.

Redragon está haciendo muy buenos periféricos, aunque anuncie que es el clon de un Red Cherry MX, sus sistema no es comparable aunque sí muy parecido. Aún así, es un gran precio para un teclado mecánico.

Quality build and performance of a more expensive brand mechanical keyboard. I'm happy.
