Hades II Technical Support FAQ [updated 24-may-2024]
From all of us at Supergiant Games, thank you for choosing Hades II. If you're experiencing any issues with the game, please check below for a solution. We expect to update this throughout our Early Access.

Note: How to Report Bugs While Playing
If you run into a bug while playing, please consider pressing F10 to report it to us. (Note this is available on Windows only. If the Bug Report window doesn't appear right away, you may need to press Alt+Tab to locate it.) Bug reports help us quickly track and solve issues with the game, improving the experience in Early Access for everyone. Thank you for your help!

Please Be Sure You Have the Latest Graphics Drivers!
If you're experiencing any problems with the game, please verify that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card. Many issues can be solved by downloading the latest drivers from your card's manufacturer. You can get the latest drivers here:

· NVIDIA Cards[www.nvidia.com]
· AMD Cards[support.amd.com]
· Intel Cards[downloadcenter.intel.com]

Verifying the Game Files
Sometimes, issues can occur when downloading game updates. This can manifest as not being able to start the game or as odd graphical issues, such as garbled textures, pixelated overlays, or missing character models or visual effects. If you're experiencing anything like this, try verifying your installation through the game's launcher to replace missing or corrupted files:
  • Right-click on Hades II in your Steam Library
  • Select 'Properties...', then select the 'Installed Files' tab
  • Select 'Verify integrity of game files'
You may also try uninstalling and re-installing the game completely. You may need to restart your computer for changes to take effect.

If You're Having Issues Launching the Game, or See a Black Screen
(Steam Deck users, please see further below.) Please try the following solutions, whichever ones are relevant to your system, in this order:

1. If you're using an overlay from Steam, GeForce, etc., please try disabling it. To do this for Steam:
  • Right-click on Hades II in your Steam Library
  • Select 'Properties...'
  • Toggle 'Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game'

2. If you ran the game and it worked for you before, try backing up and then deleting your settings file:
\%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Hades II\GlobalSettingsWin.sjson

Note: This is not your save progress. This will simply make the game restore its default settings.

3. Try running Steam in Admin mode: exit Steam if it's already running, locate the Steam EXE file, right-click on it, and select "Run as Administrator..."

4. Try downloading and installing the latest Visual C++ redistributable[aka.ms], as there's a chance it hasn't been installed correctly.

5. Disconnect any nonessential USB or bluetooth devices plugged into your PC.

If You're Having Issues Launching the Game on Steam Deck
First, ensure your Steam Deck is fully up-to-date. You can verify this as follows:
  • Press the Steam button and navigate to Settings > System
  • Under Beta Participation, ensure your System Update Channel is set to Stable
  • Select Check For Updates
If the game does not launch, we recommend forcing Hades II to run under a designated Proton version:
  • Press the Steam button and navigate to Settings > Properties > Compatibility
  • Check 'Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool'
  • Select Proton 8.0-5 (or the latest that comes with the Steam client)
If this does not work either, try the following:
  • Find Hades II in your Library, press the Options button, select 'Properties...'
  • In the 'General' menu, look for the field with the heading 'LAUNCH OPTIONS'
  • Enter the following: VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 %command%
If the Game Won't Start or Read/Write Save Data
Certain antivirus software may cause such issues. If you see the error message "Warning: Unable to Save" or "Warning: Unable to Read Data", this is the likely cause. To resolve the issue, whitelist the game and Windows save game folder (\%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\) in your antivirus software, or disable your antivirus software completely.

For Hitching / Freezing / Lag / Frame Rate / Performance Issues
1. Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers (instructions above).
2. Close all other running programs on your PC.
3. In-game, under Options > Display, change Graphics Quality to “Low”.
4. In-game, under Options > Display, try toggling Fullscreen and/or VSync.
5. If you have multiple graphics devices, under Options > Display, try changing “Auto” to manually select a different device.
6. In-game, under Options > Interface, try toggling off Transmit Data.
7. Disable any overlays, e.g. Steam, GeForce, etc. (instructions above)
8. If you have Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync, please disable them. If available, turn on AMD Anti-Lag.
9. If available, in your graphics device control panel, set 'Maximum Performance Priority' and/or 'Fast VSync'

Mouse and Controller Input Issues
If your controller is not recognized or stops working mid-session, please try the following:
  • Restart the game with the controller connected.
  • Toggle the Steam Input setting to the opposite of what it is set to (enabled or disabled). To do this, right-click Hades II in Steam and select Properties > Controller. Then under Override for Hades II, select the corresponding option in the dropdown menu.
  • Ensure that there is only one controller connected to the PC (wireless or wired).
  • Disconnect all controllers and remove all controller devices from the Device Manager. Then, reconnect your primary controller and try again.
  • For issues specific to Bluetooth controllers, try turning off Vibration under Options > Gameplay.
If your mouse cursor appears too small, such as while playing at 4K or ultrawide resolutions, you may adjust your pointer size under Mouse Settings in Windows. (The Hades II mouse cursor is based on your Windows setting.)

If you experience any other issues with mouse input, such as the cursor moving slower than you expect, go to Options > Interface and toggle Mouse Lock.

If your mouse cursor does not appear while playing using the mouse, please check to see if you are using the computer program f.lux. If so, please try disabling this software, as it can cause compatibility issues with games such as this one.

Disable any overlays, e.g. Steam, GeForce, etc.

Audio Issues
If you are experiencing issues with the game audio, please first make sure your audio drivers are updated:
  • Open Windows Device Manager
  • Open the Audio Inputs and Outputs list of devices
  • Right-click on your audio device and choose 'Update Driver'
If you are using a controller, make sure it is disabled as a sound device.

If You Unexpectedly Lose Saved Progress
If something happens and you lose progress or find your save data missing, chances are it can still be recovered. Please follow these steps while the game is running and the main menu is up:
  • On Windows, navigate to \%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Hades II\
  • Sort by Date modified to locate your most recent save matching one of these names, assuming you use Save Slot 1: Profile1_Temp.sav, Profile1_Temp.sav.bak, or Profile1.sav.bak1
  • Rename that file to Profile1.sav
  • Open the in-game Play menu and look for the save
If the Game Crashes During Play
For most crashes, a detailed report is sent to us automatically if the ‘Transmit Data’ setting is enabled. We will investigate the issue and no further action is required on your part.

If you have frequently experience a crash with the message 'A GPU crash was detected', try the below steps to send us a detailed report of the issue:

  • Turn off Steam Overlay or any similar overlays from GeForce, etc.
  • Right-click on Hades II in your Steam Library and select 'Properties...'
  • In the pop-up menu, look for the field with the heading 'LAUNCH OPTIONS'
  • Enter the following: /DebugApiValidation=true
  • Run and play the game as usual. If the crash occurs again, we'll get a detailed report of the issue automatically and work to resolve it.
  • For optimal performance, please remove the /DebugApiValidation=true option once the issue has been reported or resolved.
