This series of guides will show you how to unlock all of the Scream Fortress achievements available by playing the Ghost Fort event. It will also give you details about the Halloween boss, Merasmus.

This is a seasonal guide. Certain parts of this guide can't be completed unless the Scream Fortress event is going on. If you'd like to learn about the other Halloween events, read the guides below.

Ghost Fort is a King of the Hill map. It is a spooky overhaul of koth_lakeside with Halloween themed visuals and sounds. Ghost Fort also has a second area to it called Skull Island where players can go once defeating the boss, Merasmus.





Whenever the control point changes hands on Ghost Fort Merasmus will spin the wheel of fate. The wheel will land of one of nine fate cards which puts an effect on every player on the server. These effects can range from low gravity, big heads, critical hits and more.



Throughout the map pumpkin bombs are scattered about which are designed to catch players out who get to close to them. When they are hit they will explode damaging anybody standing around them.




Ghost Fort also has a different style of health pack. They are themed as a cauldron, a pie box and a chocolate bar.

Merasmus will appear every few minutes after his last appearance on the control point as long as there are ten or more players in the server. The game will announce his arrival in the form of a popup on the left side of the screen. From the moment he spawns players will have a minute and a half to defeat him before he leaves.



Whenever Merasmus is present his health bar will be displayed in the center of everyone's view.



Merasmus has a number of attacks he can use against players. He can hit people with his staff, roll bombs outwards in the area around him and randomly select players to hit with a magic spell which will launch them into the air while setting them on fire. Merasmus can also teleport onto the control point and make bombs rain from the sky. While he is doing this he will take critical hits from all incoming attacks.



Merasmus will often teleport from one point of the map to another. When he does this he will turn the heads of a few players into bombs. When this happens the player will recieve a speedboost so they can locate Merasmus more quickly. If a player with a bomb head runs into Merasmus they will recieve an ubercharge, crit and speed boost and Merasmus will be stunned taking critical hits from all incoming attacks. If the player fails to deliver the bomb in time by either being killed or too slow it will detonate causing damage to the opposing team.



At around 50% and 10% health Merasmus will attempt to hide by spawning objects around the map. Players must run around hitting objects in an effort to bring him out of hiding. The objects which can be hiding Merasmus will bleed green when hit. The player who finds Merasmus will be given a ubercharge, crit and speedboost. During this phase Merasmus will slowly regenerate health.



Once Merasmus has been defeated he will create a teleport to Skull Island where you can claim your reward for defeating him.

If Merasmus was successfully defeated he will return next time with a higher level. For every level Merasmus gets his health, attack speed and regen rate will be increased. His level will reset if you are unsuccessful defeating him. The Skull Island Topper will track the highest level Merasmus kill you manage to get.

Scattered throughout the map are pumpkins with explosives strapped to them. To earn the achievement hit one of these pumpkins when a player is standing close to one. This will cause the pumpkin to detonate, damaging the player standing near it.







Each time a player is killed they have roughly a 12% chance of dropping a Halloween pumpkin. Upon collecting the pumpkin you will get credit towards the achievement and a short crit buff. It doesn't matter who kills the player as long as you pick up the pumpkin. You'll also receive a hat for completing the achievement.







Killing an enemy spy who is disguised as your current class will unlock this achievement. Spy-check anybody you see who is the same class as you to earn it.







The Ghasty Gibus Grab can be earned year round. Dominating any player wearing a Ghastly Gibus will earn you the achievement and your own Ghastly Gibus hat.







Whenever the control point changes hands Merasmus will spin the Wheel of Fate. The wheel has a chance to land on a card which places ghosts around the map. If a player walks near one it will cause them to walk around vulnerable with ghosts floating around their heads. To earn this achievement simply kill somebody who is under this effect.







At random intervals a Halloween present will appear in one one of several locations throughout the map if there are ten or more players on the server. You'll recieve a personal alert letting you know the present has appreared. If you collect the present in time you will receive a Halloween themed item.







Contributing to the death of Merasmus will earn you this achievement.







Once Merasmus dies a book will appear at the same spot he was killed. Jumping into the book will teleport you to Skull Island. Climb the steps and retrieve the Skull Island Topper from the cage to earn this achievement and the hat.
