Katamari Damacy begins with an omnipotent being having too much fun dancing to a catchy toon, knocking all the stars out of the sky in the process. It is now up to you, the son of this eccentric higher being, to collect all of the over abundant junk on earth (including the people) and send it into orbit to form new stars. Katamari Damacy REROLL is the pc port/graphics overhaul to the 2004 game Katamari Damacy. This game definitely has a special place in my heart. The king of the cosmos is such an amazing character; the gameplay is so fun and unique; and oh my gosh the sound track is so freaking good, one of the best I've ever heard in a game.

In the beginning you start out with a small katamari (the ball you roll around) each level you have to reach a size requirement otherwise you are faced with fathers wrath (immense disappointment and thorough belittling). The cool thing about the levels is that it cycles between 3 maps, eventually as you get bigger you get to see parts of the map you would have never seen at your tiny stature and see the areas you were confined to, like a fish taken out of a pond and released into the ocean.

The satisfying progression is coupled by the immersive gameplay. This level of immersion is achieved through the games controls and it's sound track. On controller (which I highly recommend using) in order to roll the katamari you have to push both joy sticks forward or back, using both hands to move makes it feel like you are actually pushing the katamari. And to launch it you have to repeatedly move both joysticks rapidly in opposite directions imitating the feeling of rolling an object really fast. What really sucks you in is the amazing soundtrack, it's so powerful and fun that it could even make a rainy day seem sunny.

However, everything has their short comings. the most notable is the rocky road you need to travel in order to 100% the game. To do this you need to collect every item...... All 1438 of them. Now when you play through the game you collect a huge portion of them. The problem comes when trying to find the remaining items. This is where another fault becomes blatantly obvious, the game loses it's fun after the first playthrough due to it's repetitive nature. The gameplay consist of just rolling junk up while the levels become longer and longer. So when trying to 100% this game it can become taxing especially when you realize the item you were trying to obtain you either missed or it got knocked out of the katamari. Oh I almost forgot to mention one of the most notorious levels for people trying to 100% the game, Ursa Major and Taurus. To finish the stage all you have to do is roll up one bear or cow themed item respectively. Wow that seems easy, oh wait, there's a huge cow and bear I have to roll up to 100% the game I just have to get large enough while avoiding EVERY TINY COW/BEAR THEMED OBJECT AND EVERY TINY COW/BEAR THAT DECIDES TO GET IN THE WAY OF MY KATAMARI. It feels even worse when you're so big that you lose your traction and roll down a hill that happens to have one of these items lying at the bottom. This isn't a criticism of the game it's just me venting my frustrations. However, I do have one criticism. There's this funny thing that happens to that huge cow on the Taurus level that causes it to..... Phase out of existence :| . The only other thing which may be intended and its just me being dumb but occasionally you may roll between 2 objects as a large katamari and get stuck, the problem with this is your katamari begins to explode with items in an attempt to free itself :| . I think a way to make 100%'ing the game more stress free could have been for them to add a collection menu accessible mid level with clues on where the items are, maybe even a filter so that you can just view the ones you haven't obtained. This would've been useful because if you set out to 100% the game you're most likely going to need to grab yourself the widely used 100% spreadsheet.

Despite the frustrations I held towards the game while trying to reach 100% completion whenever I would hear my favorite songs from the games soundtrack it was almost like a palpable weight lifted off my shoulders. I cannot stress enough how amazing this game is on a first playthrough it's such a magical experience that would definitely find a place in your heart.
