Former Oliver Ames basketball state champion announces verbal commitment to D-1 program

Jasmyn Cooper will soon take the court in an orange uniform once again.

On Sunday, the former Oliver Ames standout announced her verbal commitment to play Division 1 college basketball at Syracuse University. Cooper, a four-star recruit according to ESPN, will enter her senior year at Nobles and Greenough in Dedham this winter.

Cooper was an Enterprise All-Scholastic selection in her final season at OA in 2022. She was a sophomore double-double threat who averaged 13.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game on 52 percent shooting as the Tigers went on to win the Division 2 state championship, the final game of coach Laney Clement Holbrook's legendary 46-year career. Cooper scored 22 points and hauled in 10 rebounds as OA defeated Norwood, 53-48, to win it all.

ESPN ranks the 6-foot-1 Cooper as the No. 54 recruit in the nation. She plays AAU for the MCW Starz, a program founded by Syracuse alum and former NBA first-round pick Michael Carter-Williams. Carter-Williams, the 2013 NBA Rookie of the Year, is a Hamilton, Massachusetts, native.

Syracuse.com reported on Monday that Cooper, if she signs a National Letter of Intent with the school, will be the highest-ranked recruit to commit to Syracuse since coach Felisha Legette-Jack took over the team in 2022.

Syracuse is coming off a 24-8 season that ended with an eight-point loss to UConn in the second round of the NCAA tournament as a No. 6 seed.
