Jun. 28—Bishop Walsh alum Ale Puerto, the 2021 Area Player of the Year, has been called up to the Honduras Senior National Team.

Puerto, a forward native to La Ceiba, Honduras, will head to camp in Siguatepeque from July 6-12.

Puerto has spent time with the national team in the past, scoring four times in Honduras' bid to qualify for the 2024 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

She scored twice in a 2-0 win over Martinique and again in a 2-1 loss to Nicaragua and a 4-1 defeat to Martinuque.

After graduating from Bishop Walsh, Puerto spent two years at Division 2 Fairmont State of the Mountain East Conference. She scored 13 goals and dished out seven assists over 35 games.

Puerto entered the transfer portal this summer and announced her commitment to Division 1 New Mexico.

At Bishop Walsh, Puerto had a record-setting senior season in which she scored 48 goals and assisted on eight others in just 15 games en route to the Player of the Year.

In 45 games played across her Bishop Walsh career, she averaged just over two goals per game with 94 goals and 16 assists.
