Today, on #InternationalMoonDay, we’re celebrating the moon as a guiding light. The moon and stars are essential for animals and plants to not only survive but thrive for generations to come. Here’s why: 🐢 Baby sea turtles rely on the moon's reflection to find the sea. Artificial lights can lead them inland and expose them to predators. 🐦 Migrating birds rely on stars and moonlight to navigate. Artificial lights can lead them off course and cause them to collide with buildings. 🌳 Trees and plants follow daylight cycles. Nighttime light pollution can disrupt their growth and seasonal rhythms. 🌊 Light pollution from coastal cities can cause coral reefs to spawn outside their optimal reproductive times, reducing coral growth. 🐝 Artificial light disrupts insects’ natural behaviors, affecting pollination and food chains. More than three-quarters (80%) of the global population lives under light-polluted skies, and a third of humanity can no longer see the Milky Way. Let's work together to reduce light pollution #ForPeopleAndPlanet.
