GB's women lost their opening encounter of the sitting volleyball competition to the European champions Ukraine in straight sets. Beaten 25-9, 25-20, 25-14 it was a straightforward victory for the Ukrainians who proved to be stronger, faster and more powerful than the home side.

Seated volleyball is a great activity for those who have lack of balance, skill or a mobile disability and can sit on the floor with their classmates. The game is played the same as regular volleyball except that the ball is lighter and the net is lower and there are two to a team.

In the Paralympic Games, there are a total of eight teams competing. The World ParaVolley is in charge of the sitting volleyball Paralympics. It has formulated a set of consistent sitting volleyball rules and teaching graphics which were launched in October 2013.
