[ser-klahzh´] (Fr.)encircling of a part with a ring or loop, as for correction of an incompetent cervix uteri or fixation of the adjacent ends of a fractured bone.

2. Operation for retinal detachment in which the choroid and retinal pigment epithelium are brought in contact with the detached sensory retina by a band encircling the sclera posterior to the insertion of the ocular rectus muscles.
3. The placing of a nonabsorbable suture around an incompetent cervical os.

1. The placement of a nonabsorbable suture around the uterine cervix to treat premature dilation of the cervix during pregnancy.
2. The use of an encircling wire loop or ring to bring together the ends of an obliquely fractured bone or the fragments of a broken patella.
3. The use of an encircling silicone band around the sclera of the eye to correct detachment of the retina.
