Dear friends and colleagues,

Our team has been busy designing programs for 2020, and we are ready to announce the first of these programs: The IAU Outreach Visitors Program. Applicants will have a chance to join us here in Tokyo, Japan to actively participate in our projects and collaborate with our team.

In this issue, we highlight the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education open call for positions, an exciting opportunity to join our newest sister office. We also highlight the results of the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development 2019 Call for Proposals. We encourage you to check out these projects in the link below to see what will be in store for 2020 with the help of the IAU OAD.

We want to thank all contributors of the numerous news and messages we have received for this newsletter. We will share them as soon as we can to continue to highlight your outreach and education work around the world.

Wishing you the clearest skies and the very best!
Lina Canas & Izumi Hansen, on behalf of the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach Team

We want to thank Fahim Rajit Hossain, the academic coordinator of Bangladesh Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, for sharing the news.

5) Research Institute in Sri Lanka Host Public Observations for Annular Solar Eclipse

Astronomical Research Institute, Sri Lanka (ARIS) collaborated with the Anandian Astronomical Association, Star Party group and Mount K Adventure Resort to organise public observing of the annular solar eclipse which happened on December 26, 2019. The event was organised at the historical Fort of Jaffna in the northern part of Sri Lanka. The event was conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

The telescope was signed by a number of prominent figures in astronomy, including IAU President Ewine van Dishoeck recently appointed IAU National Outreach Coordinator for Cameroon, Mbonteh Roland Ndunge. This is a legacy of the much successful collaboration during IAU 100 celebrations between the Belgian initiative Sterren Schitteren voor Iedereen (SSVI) and Universe Awareness (UNAWE) and IAU100.

8) “Full Spectrum” Documentary Available Online

This NASA-funded 20-minute short film is based on interviews conducted by Dr Bryan Mendez, from Space Sciences Laboratory University of California, Berkeley, with colleagues in the space science of underrepresented groups in the United States. The popular image of a is an older white male scientist wearing a white lab coat holding a flask of bubbling colored liquids holds true—about 80% of faculty are indeed white men. Someet some space scientists who are changing the social image of who does science and learn about their perspectives on the challenges of diversity in the physical sciences.
