The 2021 Season League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2021) is the conclusion of the 2021 League of Legends esports season. The Play-in stage begins on October 5, 2021. The main event begins on October 11, 2021.

Overview[]

COVID Information[]

The 2021 World Championship was originally slated to be held in China, following the minimal-production setup of the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was to have a full production setup in live venues. However, on August 24th, 2021, Riot announced that due to travel restrictions and COVID protocols, the event would be moved to Europe.[1] The final location of the event was eventually announced to be Reykjavik, Iceland, with all phases taking place at the Laugardalshöll indoor sporting arena.[2]

Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions prohibiting Vietnamese citizens from re-entering their country, the Vietnamese teams are unable to participate, as in 2020, regardless of location. All other teams are able to participate.

Format[]

  • Due to Vietnamese teams being unable to participate, the Play-In format was adjusted to the previous' year format, and the region's Main Event spot was given to Europe's 3rd seed.[4]

Prize Pool[]

  • Figures are based on the minimum guaranteed prize pool of $ 2,225,000 USD. A percentage of the revenue from designated in-client sales is yet to be added to this amount.
  • During the group stage, if the 3rd and 4th place teams in a group are tied, they both will receive 2.375% of the total prize pool.

$ 2,225,000 US Dollars are spread among the teams as seen below:

Notes[]

  • Seeding Changes: China and South Korea both receive one extra seed for a total of four.
  • In North America, LCS changed to a one-season-per-year system, with LCS 2021 Championship replacing LCS Summer Playoffs, and the seeding of LCS 2021 Championship will be decided by a cumulative scoreboard consisting of the whole Regular Season from February to August.
  • In Oceania, ESL Australia hosts a new tournament called LCO, which replaces OPL - the latter having dissolved in 2020.
  • In the tables below, (Q) refers to the date on which the team qualified for Worlds, while (Seed) refers to when the team was locked into their seed. If neither is present, these happened on the same day.
