And that is just /my/ computer; my partner and our roomate use even more bandwidth with online games and downloading media files (and they are both Windows users so they also have to update /way/ more often). We are only limited by speed; at any one moment we are only able to share a single 1.5 MB/s DSL connection. America is grand! But the beauty of even having such a restricted pipeline as you do, is that only one person in your community needs to download the ISO; then many, many copies can be made of that single file. At least now we will force the vandals to take the time needed to create a new login and force their modem to fetch a new IP address. Auto expiration of IP bans and rollback of page moves would also be nice... Anything to slow down vandals like Micheal and the MIT vandal is a good thing. -- Daniel Mayer (aka mav)

Apart from the specific issue of Michael, what are the rules to follow in terms of banning of a loggued in user on the en wiki ? Is it still supposed to be "sanctified" (I can't find the exact proper word), or may sysop ban loggued-in user just as they can ban ips ? It is not easy to see a page is protected (essentially because people don't put headers, do not list it, and others unprotect). But we may notice the user protesting vehemently However, if the user is blocked, we may not even realise it (except for pure bliss coming down the wikipedia after a fight). I wonder if it might not be relevant to have somehow a warning somewhere telling us that a user name has been blocked since last connection. Otherwise, we might not notice and be able to unblock him perhaps. Just thoughts. Setting up blocking of names (which will be block with the ip, so entirely prevent the user to communicate with us) is just changing the concept. Sometimes, RickK, Anthere's tone can appear as an attack but it is usually just because, as someone whose first language is not english, the fact that she made be being ironic may not communicated clearly. Most people find it difficult to express subtle nuances in languages other than their mother tongue. (You should hear me trying to be ironic in french!!!) Please remember, folks, Michael is the bad guy here. RickK like so many of us was simply trying to undo Michael's vandalism. Don't let Michael create a situation where, as well as regularly vandalising our site, he starts fights among decent users over how to deal with him. RickK tried to do the right thing in the wrong way. Most of have at some stage. The sooner the Michael problem is dealt with the better for all of us. I don't have a good enough connection to clean this up - in particular the deletion log is taking forever to come up. Someone moved [[Penis]] to [[/User:Scarequotes]] Unfortunately, this was fixed by 1. deleting /[[/User:Scarequotes]] 2. pasting the text of [[Penis]] back in So we have ow lost all of that page's edit history. Please could someone fix? ( we need to undelete ///[[/User:Scarequotes]], and move it back)/ / /// // //
