ABC News host George Stephanopoulos, who hosted the first on-camera interview with President Joe Biden since his debate performance, reportedly said on Tuesday that he does not believe the president can serve another four years.

Stephanopoulos conducted the interview with Biden as a "primetime special" last week, as the president faces mounting calls to drop out of the presidential race due to his lackluster debate performance last month.

An anonymous passer-by appeared to ask the news anchor in Manhattan whether he believed Biden should step down, claiming Stephanopoulos has spoken to Biden more than anyone else recently.

“I don’t think he can serve four more years,” the news anchor responded after a moment, according to footage obtained by TMZ. Stephanopoulos cannot be seen in the footage when answering the question, but the outlet maintained that the speaker was the anchor.

Stephanopoulos later confirmed that it was him in the video, but admitted that he should not have answered the question, according to Puck News.

“George expressed his own point of view and not the position of ABC News," a spokesperson for ABC said.

Stephanopoulos's 22-minute interview with the president was watched by approximately 8.1 million viewers, according to the New York Post. During the interview, Biden admitted that he was tired ahead of the presidential debate against former President Donald Trump, and was under the weather with a bad cold. But the president claimed the debate was a "bad episode" rather than an indication of a more serious illness.

Biden also rejected the calls to drop out of the race in the sit-down, stating that he would only do so if the "Lord Almighty" came down from heaven and told him to.
