be in charge (of someone or something)

be in charge (of someone or something)

To be in a position of control, authority, or responsibility over someone or something. Who's in charge here? I want to speak to the person who makes the decisions. Mom said I'm in charge of chopping the carrots. My sister Fiona is coming to stay for the week, so she'll be in charge of the kids while I am away.
