🧑🌾In semi-arid Africa, smallholder farmers face challenging conditions, with over 50% of rainwater being lost to runoff and evaporation. Despite efforts such as water harvesting and improved seeds, crop yields remain low, leading to increased food insecurity. In Marange, Zimbabwe, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT is demonstrating how integrating water capture and soil health techniques can significantly improve productivity. By using runoff channels, infiltration pits, and organic manures, farms in the area have been able to improve soil health and water retention. This success story is inspiring neighboring farmers to adopt similar climate-smart practices. More: https://lnkd.in/dM2iTAtk #ClimateResilience

🗞 CGIAR #IntheNews Aditi Mukherji, Director of the CGIAR Climate Impact Platform, warns that the Earth experienced its hottest 12 months on record from July 2023 to June 2024, with temperatures 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This continuous rise in heat is linked to more extreme weather events and significant ecological impacts. Mukherji emphasizes that even small temperature increases can lead to drastic consequences, likening 1.5°C of warming to a medium-to-high fever for the planet. She stresses the need for urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve climate adaptation efforts. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d45BzT9g #ClimateChange #ClimateAction The Guardian
