Chrome browser

A Web browser from Google introduced for Windows in 2008 and for Mac and Linux in 2009. The most popular browser worldwide as of 2021 and based on code from the open source Chromium project, Chrome made searching simpler by integrating the URL address bar and search box into one input field called the "Omnibox." Also included is a display of "most visited pages" when a new tab is opened. The memory usage for each tab can be viewed, and misbehaving tabs can be closed with Chrome's equivalent to a task manager function.

In "Incognito" mode, users visit websites without transmitting any cookies stored in their computers, and incoming cookies will be deleted at the end of the session. Users are also warned about Web pages that exhibit signs of malware or phishing. See Chrome extension, Chrome OS, Chromebook and Chromium.

The First Omnibox
This was the first time Chrome provided a single field for entering either a URL or search words. Subsequent Chrome versions display the results with a brief description of their content and do not use this list format.
