Bludhorn, Charles G.

(1926–83) corporate executive; born in Vienna, Austria. Educated in England, he emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1942 and started a New York import-export business (1949). In 1957 he bought the first of a number of companies that later merged into Gulf & Western Industries (1958). As chairman of the board and CEO (1960–83) he forged Gulf & Western into a multibillion-dollar conglomerate through diversified acquisitions ranging from New Jersey Zinc to Paramount Pictures.
