While PLANon boasts that the DocuPen can scan hundreds of pages, be aware that this applies to black and white pages--your options are more limited in
24-bit color mode.
An image with 4 pixels will produce 96 bits of data (4 x
24-bit color).
Equipped with 64 Mbytes of DRAM, the video subsystem features a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 (
24-bit color), and provides 2D/3D video acceleration with OpenGL and Direct-X support.
Each pix is encoded in eight bits, where the value points to a
24-bit color entry in the palette.
By contrast, midrange scan converters (about $500 to $700) push resolutions up to 1024x768 and offer
24-bit color processing, so the converted image (that is, the final image displayed on a TV) will retain the richness of the original image.
The eCare solution features up to six different compression options that go all the way from
24-bit color (not compressed), down to 2-bit grayscale.
CRT, LCD, plasma or projection displays can be converted into a high-resolution television screen up to 1024 X 768, with
24-bit color and a full-screen image.
The software requires one FireWire connector; AGP graphics card with 8MBs memory; minimum 700MHz Celeron, Pentium III or Athlon CPU (1.1 GHz and above for real-time video capture); 128MB of memory, 5GB hard drive and a
24-bit color display.
Z Corporation, Burlington, MA, has put on the market the Z402C 3D color printer, which is capable of rendering parts in
24-bit color from a range of sources, including many native CAD formats.
Century-C computers feature socket 370 Celeron CPUs to 500 MHz and the new C&T 69030 video controller, which handles display resolutions up to 1280x1024 with
24-bit color. The video chip has an Accelerated Graphics Port to enhance video speed.
