We are setting a new standard for secure authentication experience: device-bound passkeys, the gold standard of authentication for financial institutions (FIs). As banking becomes digitalized, there are increasing levels of fraud worldwide. Although users are becoming more alert to these fraud techniques, criminals are evolving their approach as well. Their fraud attempts are increasingly sophisticated, and even though most digital banking is protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA), this security is not a guarantee against successful attacks. This is where passkeys enter the stage. They replace passwords with cryptographic key pairs, offering enhanced security and user experience by leveraging FIDO credentials that are resistant to phishing, syncable across devices, and adaptable for either multi-device or single-device use. When it comes to implementing passkeys, it is important for financial institutions to differentiate between synced and device-bound passkeys: 🔹 Synced passkeys allow users to switch seamlessly between their devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, or even a brand-new device, without having to re-register each device to each user account – ideal for consumer-facing apps and websites. 🔹Device-bound passkeys cannot be shared or exported from the device, adding an extra layer of security. This ensures that banks can always verify that a transaction has been authenticated from a trusted device. Recently, our leaders gathered in Lyon for a 3-day workshop. Set against Lyon’s historic backdrop, this event deepened personal and professional connections, fostering group cohesion and a deeper understanding of global challenges. Guided by PGP coaches Roland Greppmair and Ann-Kathrin Kaellner, participants engaged in peer group coaching, discussions, and exercises focused on personal growth. A fireside chat with Head of HR Dr. Jutta Häusler and Thomas Steininger, Head of Global Talent Management & Leadership Development, covered managing future challenges and adapting leadership styles. The group also visited the G+D Card Facility at Craponne, learned about advanced bank card personalization, and enjoyed French hospitality. Does AI have prejudices against certain groups of people? 🤖 Unfortunately, yes. There are already many well-documented cases in which AI algorithms have behaved extremely negatively towards different ethnic groups and genders. And some companies also behave unethically when using AI, for example when collected data is used for purposes that the person concerned is not aware of. The European Union has already reacted to these problems. It has passed a law that prohibits the monitoring or social scoring of people, for example. As a leading provider of identity solutions, our joint venture Veridos also attaches great importance to trustworthy AI and is working intensively with partners from science and industry in this area. "Trustworthy AI is a key focus of our work. We want to ensure that our AI systems act fairly and transparently and respect people's personal self-determination," says Letizia Bordoli, AI Lead and Senior AI Product Manager at Veridos. To achieve this, Veridos continuously trains its AI models and focuses on diversifying the training data. When doing this, we attach great importance to both protecting user data and guaranteeing data sovereignty: so-called federated learning allows an algorithm to be trained on several decentralized devices or servers without the data itself being exchanged. This minimizes the risk of data breaches.
