⬇ Highlights from our Capacity-Enhancing Innovations (CEI) panel at #HTAi2024Seville ⬇
🏥 CEIs play a very important role for hospital CEOs and C-suite executives. They directly support healthcare professionals alleviating the strain caused by limited capacity. By reducing fatigue and procedure times, CEIs emerge as a crucial solution to address the challenges faced by healthcare professionals.
While organizational aspects are already considered in health technology assessments, there is a need to elevate their importance. Changing the way technology is evaluated by also considering the underlying process acknowledging the broader impact. By doing so, we can measure improvements in healthcare professionals’ quality of life and the impact on the utilisation of the different services.
Building capacity is still a problem in some countries and in some cases, infrastructures are needed to best leverage innovations. Additionally, incorporating new technologies within a fixed hospital budget can present a challenge that requires better understanding of the complex financial streams in the setup.
Patients, as regular users of healthcare systems, have valuable insight on both positive aspects and challenges. Their ability to report contributes to the well-being of all citizens. In the context of HTA, they advocate for a broader perspective beyond safety and efficacy alone even if this can impact the length of assessments. Considering the user experience is also crucial. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) already exist for patients. However, extending this to collect feedback from medical professionals and nurses is equally important. Patients should not only be consulted on the benefit of technologies & clinical outcomes but also on how it impacts the overall treatment and patient pathway.
Examples of the impact of CEI on the different processes already exist. Where, combined with educational organization implementation, CEI reduced length of stay, enhanced healthcare professionals’ satisfaction, and streamlined referrals.
Big thanks & round of 👏 for our expert-panel: Dr. Jittrakul Prinnapat, Dr. Wija Oortwijn, Dr. Laura Sampietro-Colom, Ms. Valentina Strammiello, & Mr. Andrea Rappagliosi.
