Jared Schniers serves as the Alamito Creek Conservation Initiative Coordinator.

Jared is an accomplished natural resource professional with over 15 years of experience working primarily in the Trans-Pecos region. He received his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with a minor in Range and Wildlife Management from Angelo State University. He has spent his career with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service as a Range Management Specialist and District Conservationist. Jared has over 12 years of experience assisting private landowners with conservation efforts in Brewster, Jeff Davis and Presidio counties. He spent a portion of his career working as a District Conservationist in Smith River, California. Jared moved back to Alpine with his family in 2017.

Jared has a significant amount of natural resource experience, and has administered countless farm bill contracts that financially assist producers to implement conservation practices on their property. He has also worked extensively with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts and area landowners to determine local concerns and where financial assistance would best be allocated. Jared is an extremely competent conservation planner, is very well versed in conducting natural resource inventories, and has a solid understanding of Tran-Pecos vegetative communities and associated vital wildlife habitat characteristics. Jared has established himself as a trusted asset to local ranchers because of his thorough understanding of applicable management practices including proper grazing management, wildlife habitat enhancement, brush management, livestock and wildlife water development, and riparian area management.

In his current position he will be working with landowners and conservation partners to enhance habitat in the Alamito Creek watershed. The Alamito Creek Conservation Initiative will utilize existing cost-share programs to carry out voluntary incentive-based conservation projects.
