Is Disney Plus shutting down? Future of popular streaming platform explained

Disney had been preparing for a long time to acquire the remaining shares of Hulu, and everything was finalized at the start of December 2023. This means that the studio now has full control over two different streaming platforms. We will still have to wait for one unified application. The official launch is scheduled for spring 2024, with a test version expected to be available in the United States as early as December of this year. Despite this, Disney has released a new subscription that combines two services into one: $9.99 per month with ads and $19.99 per month without ads. For the time being, you should download Hulu and Disney+ separately in order to watch the films and series available on both platforms.

However, the new application won't be entirely new. The Disney+ application is expected to have new features added, allowing viewers to switch between Disney+ and Hulu to watch the available productions. The two platforms will still have separate libraries, and because of this, some of the films or series may repeat.

At this moment, it's unknown what future awaits Hulu. Disney+ is set to receive an update, ensuring the survival of the application and the continuation of its development. It's important to remember that viewers who subscribe to the new two-service plan will initially gain access to the unified app that combines Hulu and Disney+. Disney hasn't yet provided a specific date when the changes to its streaming service can be expected.
