āAge of Empires II description |
The Magyar Huszar is the unique unit of the Magyars in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. It is a light cavalry unit with an attack bonus against siege weapons.
As their 45 gold cost can be converted to food by researching the Corvinian Army technology, Magyar Huszars are considered trash units.
Magyar Huszars can be upgraded to Elite Magyar Huszars in the Imperial Age.
Tactics[]

Magyar Huszars are comparatively cheap. Despite this, they have a considerable amount of attack, are fast, and have an attack bonus against siege weapons, making them an ideal counter to siege units. Also, they attack quickly, striking once every 1.8 seconds. In the cavalry branch, that value is only matched by Knights and Cataphracts. They also train fast, though it is still easier to spam Hussars from multiple Stables than it is to spam Magyar Huszars from Castles.
Magyar Huszars are an excellent complement for Cavalry Archers. They can easily deal with enemy siege weapons and Elite Skirmishers, which are major weaknesses of Cavalry Archers, making way for the Cavalry Archers to deal with everything else. Camel Riders, however, can be a threat. Pikemen naturally deal huge bonus damage against both the Cavalry Archer and the Magyar Huszar, but can usually do no more than scare them off due to their low speed and zero range.
In combat against melee units, however, the Magyar Huszar's lackluster attack and armor makes it almost impossible to defeat anything in one-to-one combat. But considering their low cost, they still remain relatively cost effective against most of them nevertheless.
Their low cost, high speed, and decent attack make them ideal for raiding. The Hussar gives a competition here because of the latter's massive Line of Sight, ease of creation at Stables, and cheaper cost. Magyar Huszars are also not nearly as effective against Monks as regular Hussars, lacking their conversion resistance and bonus damage against Monks. Additionally, both the Hussar and Elite Magyar Huszar require 4 attacks to kill a Villager with Loom (the Magyar Huszar will leave a Villager with 1 HP after 3 strikes, requiring a fourth to finish it off), so regular Hussars are usually better for raiding due to their cheaper cost, though the Magyar Huszar is still good at the job.

Trivia[]
- The Magyar Huszar's shield resembles the Magyar civilization icon.
- In the beta, they had 1 more attack than they have now.
- With a speed of 1.65 when Husbandry is researched, the Magyar Huszar is the second fastest unique land unit, only behind the Shrivamsha Rider.
- With 14 attack and Corvinian Army researched, the Elite Magyar Huszar is tied with the Malian Light Cavalry with Farimba for the second highest attack among all trash units, only behind the Malay Two-Handed Swordsman with Forced Levy (with 16 attack).
- The Magyar Huszar has a bow (possibly a Recurve Bow) on its side which is just for show (it does not use the Ratha mechanic of changing its attack weapon).
- The very first model of the Magyar Huszar probably inspired Pyrrhus's in Return of Rome.
