"Horses give us strength just by being who they are and standing by our side"

  • To rescue and rehabilitate as many horses and ponies as possible and maintain a safe ‘forever’ home for them.
To develop and implement more equine-assisted healing programmes aimed at helping children and adults who are victims of human trafficking, have been physically or mentally abused, are suffering from substance abuse or have mental health issues.
  • Sanctuary - to provide a safe space for both the horses as well as the human victims of abuse and neglect and work with them through equine assisted therapy.
Education - to educate the underprivileged horse-owning communities in the Western Cape area on how to correctly care for their horses and provide ongoing support to them. As many cases of abuse and neglect come from lack of knowledge, we strive to work with the local community thereby reducing the number of abused and abandoned horses.
  • To own an area of secure land, with an adequate infrastructure, where people can stay and have uninterrupted interaction with the horses.

About Tom Ro Haven:

Established in 2012, Tom Ro Haven is a registered NPO which rescues abused and neglected horses and ponies and rehabilitates them at their premises in Noordhoek, Cape Town.
The horses and ponies at the Haven are then used in equine assisted healing programmes, focusing on children and young adults deemed to be at risk, or who have suffered from physical or emotional trauma.
By using horses to heal and awaken empathy, compassion and respect, the Haven aims to not only change the lives of horses, but to positively impact the local community too.

Our aim is to RESCUE, REHABILITATE and EDUCATE

How can you help?

Costs of a horse rescue to Tom Ro Haven are a huge and constant responsibility and we rely solely on donations and help from our wonderful volunteers to keep the Haven running. In order to continue and expand the work we’re doing to achieve our objectives; we need the following:

  • Continued funding to cover the everyday costs for feeding, medicine etc. Long-term monthly sponsors are our ultimate goal to ensure we have regular income.
  • Our own secure land with adequate infrastructure.
  • Basic building and maintenance materials: wheelbarrows, spades, rakes, buckets etc.
  • A horse box. This could be sponsored, donated or loaned to us and we would of course be open to any branding to suit.
  • An SUV or mini-bus so we can transport food/hay etc as well as bring children from the various projects who have no means of getting to us other than taxis.
  • Additional Funding for marketing materials and marketing projects including social media, PR, outreach etc

MAKE A DONATION
