C.A.R.E. is a highly regarded wildlife conservation & welfare charity that has been specialising in baboons since 1989. A fully equipped, ethical, reputable, government and NSPCA endorsed rehabilitation centre, situated on the banks of the beautiful Olifants River, within the ecologically diverse and important wildlife habitat of the Greater Kruger National Park.

C.A.R.E.'s unwavering commitment to rescue, protect, conserve and provide a safe environment for chacma baboons, since 1989, has never been so important. Your help and support is vital to safeguarding our incredible primate cousins. 60% of (nonhuman) primate species are threatened with extinction and about 75% have declining populations due to human activities.

Primates are under unprecedented threat from destruction of habitat, illegal wildlife trade and hunting and failure to respond to the mounting threats now exacerbated by climate change will bring the first primate extinctions in more than a century.

114 of the world’s 394 primate species are classified as threatened with extinction on the IUCN Red List. Chacma baboons could be extinct by 2070, according to published science. You can make a direct positive impact today, through donating or signing up to volunteer.

Our Services

Our wildlife rescue centre specialises in chacma baboons which are victims of illegal wildlife crime; trauma, abuse, pet trade, snaring, traffic accidents & poaching. We are committed to providing a safe, professional & nurturing environment for animals to recover and thrive.

We also have wonderful success stories for smaller creatures which have a much quicker rescue to release journey comparable to baboons, for example bushbabies, small birds, squirrels, porcupines, warthogs, antelope species and more.

Baboon & Small Wildlife Rescue

We have an onsite Veterinary Clinic and wildlife rehabilitators, animal care givers and conservationists onsite at all times. With professional and tailored help, all rescued animals are in expert hands.

Our tailor-made Veterinary Clinic, Bonding Enclosures, Quarantine, Intensive care, Nursery and Education Facilities were constructed according to GFAS and PASA guidelines to ensure optimal animal welfare and hygiene standards.

Veterinary Care

With specialised, tailored nursery facilities, bonding enclosures, semi-wild and intensive care facilities we take pride in successfully healing sick and injured orphaned baboons and releasing them back into the wild or providing optimal welfare as they are adopted into a social troop within the sanctuary. With unique expertise in bonding baby baboons with baboon foster mothers, the animals welfare and adoption into a social family of their own kind takes precedent.

Baboon Rehabilitation & Release

Conservation education and outreach are crucial to our mission of protecting and conserving South Africa's wildlife. We believe that by educating local communities, we can create a sustainable future for our wildlife. We are regularly contribution to humans-wildife conflict mitigation. Additionally, we provide veterinary care to dogs in remote and rural areas to ensure their health and well-being.
