WoW Developers form the first wall-to-wall union at Blizzard Entertainment
The World of Warcraft development team has announced the
World of Warcraft Gamemakers Guild (
WoWGG-CWA), the first wall-to-wall union at Blizzard Entertainment.
- The union includes over 500 employees from QA, Art, Sound, Design, Engineering, and Production roles.
- A 60-person QA team in Austin, Texas, also unionized as Texas Blizzard QA United-CWA.
- The unionization was enabled by a 2022 Labor Neutrality Agreement, which also helped Bethesda employees unionize.
- Kevin Vigue, Blizzard senior software engineer, said the union aims to ensure the company's mantra "every voice matters."
- The team was inspired by unionization efforts at ZeniMax, Sega, and others, strengthened by industry layoffs and closures.
- The union seeks to improve working conditions and preserve what employees love about Blizzard: "making great video games".
- A bargaining committee will be elected to prioritize issues like layoff protections, remote work policies, transparency in promotions, and pay adjustments.
